ANNUAL LEAVE

(VACATION)

 

 

All employees of the Lafayette Parish School Board employed for 244 days shall be eligible to receive annual leave in accordance with the following schedule.

 

Less than three (3) years of service, at the rate of one (1) day of annual leave per month (equivalent to 12 days per year)

 

Three (3) years but less than ten (10) years of service, at the rate of one and one-fourth days of annual leave per month (equivalent to 15 days per year)

 

Ten (10) or more years of service, at the rate of one and one-half days per month (equivalent to 18 days per year)

 

Years of experience shall be computed on a fiscal year basis.  An employee must be employed and on the job for at least six (6) months or more prior to the end of the fiscal year to receive credit for a year’s experience.  Only time accrued as a full-time 12-month employee shall be used as awarding annual leave.

 

Annual leave shall be credited to the employee at the end of each fiscal year (June 30th) and shall be taken during the following fiscal year.  Unused annual leave may be carried forward into the next fiscal year up to a maximum of ten (10) days.

 

APPLICATION FOR ANNUAL LEAVE

 

All annual leave must be requested in writing and submitted to the Superintendent or his/her designee well in advance of the anticipated beginning date of leave (whenever possible).  Employees should work with the appropriate supervisor in arranging for annual leave.  Administrative personnel shall take into consideration the services to be rendered by the employee when arranging for annual leave and shall make every effort to allow the requested annual leave.

 

PAYMENT FOR UNUSED ANNUAL LEAVE

 

Upon retirement, resignation, or termination of employment, the employee shall be paid for any unused accumulated annual leave at the employee’s daily rate of pay.  Payment shall be made to the employee or upon his/her death prior to retirement his/her heirs on or before the next regular pay cycle during which the employee was working at the time of separation or no later than fifteen (15) days following the date of separation, whichever occurs first.

 

AGRISCIENCE TEACHERS

 

Agriscience teachers shall be eligible to accrue annual leave at a rate of one day of leave per month (equivalent up to 12 days per year) and shall take such leave outside the 182-day instructional calendar only.

 

DEFERRED RETIREMENT OPTION PROGRAM (DROP)

 

Any accrued annual leave shall be paid only upon final retirement of the employee.
