Earlier today we recognized the winners of our Black History Month poster contest from each elementary, middle, and high school.  Congratulations to these students.  This year’s themes were as follows:

                           Kindergarten-2nd Grade: Dream like Martin

3rd-8th Grade: Meaningful Moments in Black History

9th-12th Grade: Unsung Heroes and Moments in Black History

This week, Feb 27-March 3, is Public Schools Week, a five day campaign to highlight the importance of public education in our communities. We ask you all to join us in celebrating Public Schools Week by sharing school success stories on social media, volunteering time or donating money, or by simply giving thanks to our dedicated employees next time you see them. Help us show our students the value of public education and the vital role public schools play in our community. I’d like to commend school staffs from across the district who held various outstanding Black History programs and activities.

On Monday, The Employee Services Department hosted a Teacher Interest Meeting for approximately 100 potential candidates interested in becoming a teacher in our district and on Saturday, April 1 they will be hosting a teacher job fair at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please visit the LPSS website for more information.

The 7th Annual On Cuisine du Jardin Cook-Off took place on Saturday February 4, 2023. The goal of the Cook-Off is to provide youth participant’s hands-on cooking experiences using vegetables grown from their school gardens and/or local produce and knowledge of healthy food choices that make up MyPlate. This is an exciting example of great local organizations coming together to support healthy lifestyles, education, and local food production.

Charles Burke won first place with their garden salad, beef stir fry and berry shortcake. Second place went to Green T. Lindon. Alice Boucher won the most garden vegetables award and Middlebrook earned the award for outstanding teamwork. Congratulations to all these teams.

Kindergarten registration opens this coming Friday, March 3 for Lafayette parish students turning 5 on or before Sept 30, 2023. Families are encouraged to visit the LPSS website for more information. As a reminder, Pre-K applications are open now through April 30, 2023.
