Superintendent Trosclair gave the Board information and updates on the following:
SOLA Giving Day - Superintendent Trosclair opened by thanking the community for participating in last week’s SOLA Giving Day. LPSS schools raised over $75,000 total! A huge thank you to Love Our Schools for sponsoring all 46 LPSS schools in this donation match opportunity, contributing $39,000, which will go toward the funding of a school selected project. Thank you to the LPSS community for making those donations that helped raise over $75,000 for our schools!
NJROTC Cadets Perform Well in the National Academic Exam SY21/22 - Ovey Comeaux High School’s NJROTC Magnet Academy Cadets entered three teams in the National Academic Exam SY21/22. All three teams placed within the top 1% overall. Out of 1,578 NJROTC teams; all three OCHS teams placed in the top 20! In addition, this year’s unit has earned the title of Distinguished Unit from their supervising Navy Commander. Congratulations to these outstanding cadets!
LPSS Holds Career Center Signing: Celebration of Student Success - On Wednesday, May 4th, the W.D. & Mary Baker Smith Career Center held a signing event to celebrate Career Center students' success as they sign on with future employers! These students earned valuable industry credentials and are ready to start their careers in high-wage, high-demand jobs. In addition to celebrating these students, the celebration also recognized students of the year in each program and students graduating from SLCC with a technical diploma based on the dual enrollment credits earned at the Career Center.
LPSS high schools among the Top 100 for Louisiana – Recognition of the following LPSS high schools for ranking among the Top 100 for Louisiana in the latest U.S. News and World Report ranking of the state's best: Lafayette High School; David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy; Early College Academy; and Ovey Comeaux High School. Criteria used in ranking includes college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency and performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate.
LPSS Elementary Fitness Team - On April 23, 2022, the LPSS Elementary Fitness Team, consisting of team members Eli Bonnie, Landon Moran, Emma Claire Hargrave, and Addison Arnaud, competed in the Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet, where they won the State Championship! Eli and Landon finished 1st and 2nd overall amongst all boys’ participants. Congratulations to these students for bringing the State Championship back to Lafayette Parish!
National School Breakfast Week Contest Winners - National School Breakfast Week 2022 took place March 7 - 11, 2022. Elementary students were encouraged to participate in the “Take Off with School Breakfast” art contest, while middle and high school students participated in an essay contest. Congratulations to all who participated in the contest and to the following three winners: 1st place essay winner: Kiana D., 6th grade student at Edgar Martin Middle; 1st place art winner: Malaysia B., 5th grade student at Martial Billeaud Elementary; 2nd place art winner: Naomi O., 4th grade student at Live Oak Elementary.
Kiwanis of Acadiana Regional Spelling Bee Champion - Congratulations to Scott Middle School 6th grader Aiden Pham for being named Kiwanis of Acadiana Regional Spelling Bee Champion! Please join me in wishing him luck as he moves on to represent our region in Washington D.C. at the Scripps National Spelling Bee!
NHS Beta Club Awards and Girls Track and Field - Congratulations also to the Northside High School Beta Club for earning the National Beta School of Merit Award and the National Beta School of Distinction Award as well as the Northside High School Girls Track Team for placing second overall at the 4A State Track Meet! Well done NHS!
Superintendent’s Scholarship Golf Tournament Scheduled for May 27, 2022 – Reminder: The 24th Annual LPSS Superintendent’s Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Farm D’Allie Golf Club in Carencro. A total of $54,000 has been awarded to this year’s 38 scholarship recipients. Please contact Director of Athletics Nic Jeffers for more information on how you can contribute to this scholarship opportunity. Help make this year’s tournament a success.

Ms. Erica Ray, Co-founder of Love our Schools, shared information with the Board regarding the Café partnership and the positive impact being made in the schools and the community. Ms. Carlee Alm-LaBar, United Way of Acadiana President & CEO, thanked the Board for their support and introduced Micah Nicholas, United Way of Acadiana Café Coordinator. Mr. Nicholas thanked LPSS for the opportunity to work with the staff and community in making the district bigger and better for the students and their families.
Information: 2.2 ACADEMICS: Relocation of Martial F. Billeaud Elementary Pre-K Classes to Katharine Drexel - Rabalais/Duay
Dr. Rabalais Chief Academic Officer, provided information to the Board regarding the relocation of Martial F. Billeaud Elementary Pre-K Classes to Katharine Drexel Elementary School and that transportation will be provided for the students.

Matt Dugas, Associate Superintendent of Business Services, informed the Board that according to Section 3 of the Administrative Plan LPSS is required to make an Interest Earnings Distribution to all eligible employees and that the May 2022 computation of the 2002 Half Cent Sales Tax Interest Reserve payment will be made at the end of May in a separate direct deposit.

Whereas, education and knowledge are the foundation of the current and future strength of the United States;
Whereas, teachers and other education staff have earned and deserve the respect of their students and communities for the selfless dedication of the teachers and staff to community service and the futures of the children of the United States;
Whereas, school communities, teachers, and other education staff have risen to the occasion to support their students and communities amid the significant challenges posed by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID–19) pandemic;
Whereas, teachers and other education staff have taken on the challenges presented by schools reopening, including by— (1) helping to address pandemic learning loss; (2) supporting the mental and behavioral health needs of students; and (3) maintaining health and safety standards to prevent a reoccurrence of the pandemic;
Whereas, the purposes of National Teacher Appreciation Week, celebrated from May 2, 2022, through May 6, 2022, are - (1) to raise public awareness of the unquantifiable contributions of teachers; and (2) to promote greater respect and understanding for the teaching profession; and

NATIONAL SCHOOL NURSE DAY
WHEREAS, children are the future and, by investing in them today, we are ensuring our world for tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, all students have a right to have their health needs safely met while in the school setting; and
WHEREAS, children today face more complex and life-threatening health problems requiring care in school; and
WHEREAS, school nurses have served a critical role in improving public health and in ensuring student’s academic success for more than 100 years; and
WHEREAS, school nurses are professional nurses that advance the well-being, academic success and life-long achievements of all students by serving on the frontlines and providing a critical safety net for our nation’s most fragile children; and
WHEREAS, school nurses act as a liaison to the school community, parents and health care providers on behalf of children’s health by promoting wellness and improving health outcomes for our community’s children; and
WHEREAS, school nurses are members of school-based mental health teams; and
WHEREAS, school nurses understand the link between health and learning and are in a position to make a positive difference for children every day,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lafayette Parish School Board, celebrates and acknowledges the accomplishments of school nurses everywhere and their efforts of meeting the needs of today’s students by improving the delivery of health care in our schools and offers gratitude to school nurses who contribute to our community by helping students stay healthy, in school, and ready to learn, and keeping parents and guardians at work, not just on this National School Nurse Day, but at every opportunity through the year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Lafayette Parish School Board does hereby designate the day of May 11, 2022, as “National School Nurse Day” and strongly encourages all members of our community to join with it in personally expressing appreciation to our school nurses for their dedication and devotion to their work.

FOOD SERVICE WORKER’S WEEK AND SCHOOL LUNCH HERO DAY
WHEREAS, all nutrition programs are dedicated to the health and well-being of our nation’s children; and

WHEREAS, the staff of the LPSS Child Nutrition Services is committed to providing healthful, nutritious meals to the district’s children; and
WHEREAS, the men and women who prepare and serve school meals help nurture our children through their daily interaction and support; and now
