Mr. Tommy Angelle, 2022 Board President, along with fellow Board Members, presented Mrs. Mary Morrison with a plaque in recognition of her services and dedication to the Lafayette Parish School Board and entire district as Board President for 2021.
Mrs. Morrison thanked everyone for their support and for the opportunity to have served the District and community as Board President for 2021.
Tommy Angelle thanked his fellow Board Members for electing him as Board President for 2022 and Mary Morrison for her steady leadership in 2021, and stated that after undertaken the role as Board President in 2015 and 2016, he is looking forward to serving the community in this capacity again. He also shared the following: “I am filled with gratitude for our hardworking staff, our educators, district and school administrators, support personnel; and everyone whose dedication has brought us to this point. Managing an ongoing challenge like the pandemic has been difficult and stressful at times, but I’m proud to say that our efforts have paid off for our students. According to the recently released data from the Louisiana Department of Education, our district experienced the fifth-highest growth in student performance among districts statewide for the 2020-2021 school year. We were one of only 17 parishes out of 64 to report increases. Our simulated district performance score increased 2.7 points, moving from 78.9 to 81.6, maintaining our B status. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and I want to thank our entire school community for working together the last few years in the best interest of students.” He also stated that the next Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for February 9, 2022 and that the 2022 meeting calendar would be available on the LPSS website.
