Procedural: 1.2 Moment of Silence

Procedural: 1.3 Opening Comments - Superintendent

Superintendent Trosclair gave the Board information and updates on the following:

High School Graduation

We are excited to announce that we conferred diplomas to 1,971 seniors who successfully completed all of their high school requirements from May 20-22 at the CajunDome. Our seniors earned over $46 million in scholarships.  We are so proud that these students were able to rise to the challenge in this unprecedented year and earn their diploma.

Early Childhood Application Event

The LPSS Early Childhood Department will continue to host day two of their in-person event tomorrow Thursday, June 3, 2021 to assist parents with completing an application for their children to attend early childhood learning programs. The event will be held at the Vermilion Conference Center, located at 326 Gauthier Road, and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Parents of children ages birth to five are encouraged to attend to learn more about the high quality early childhood programs available in Lafayette Parish, as well as various options for child care assistance and funding.  LPSS Early Childhood staff will be available to answer questions and help parents review options and select a program that fits their family’s needs.

Parents can also visit enrolllafayette.com to register their child for one of the many high quality early childhood programs available.

Jump Start Summers

Jump Start Summers began this week with all 337 seats filled. Students have the opportunity to earn a course credit, industry credential, and a summer wage. In addition, students gain valuable real world work experience throughout the entire process.

Summer School

Our summer accelerated learning program begins for our high school students tomorrow, June 3 followed by our elementary and middle school students.  This is the first time that we are offering this program to our elementary students. After this year, we felt it was important to offer all of our students an opportunity for remediation and fill in any learning gaps so that these students can stay on track with their cohorts.

Summer Camps

In addition to our summer accelerated learning program, LPPS is pleased to offer optional summer camps for our students to focus on STEM skills. We have had an overwhelming response for our Astro NASA Camp Space Experience and our CSI Mystery Camp. We are currently accepting names of waiting lists. If and when more seats become available, we will communicate that information.

In closing, I would like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone retiring from our district at the end of this academic year and recognize a few of our school administrators, Mr. Jeff Janette, Mr. David Zielinski, Ms. Denise Soileau, Ms. Kelli Clause, and Mr. David Lejeune. Congratulations to you all as you begin the next chapter of your lives, we wish you all the best.
