1. MEETING OPENINGS

Procedural: 1.1 Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and Presentation of Colors-Comeaux High School Navy JROTC Magnet Academy

Procedural: 1.2 Moment of Silence

Procedural: 1.3 Opening Comments – Superintendent

Irma Trosclair, Interim Superintendent, gave the Board information on the following:

Magnet Academies Showcase will be held Saturday, October 12th from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Heymann Performing Arts Center. The event will have hands-on activities as well as live performances from our talented students.  It is opened to the public, so everyone is welcome to attend. Online applications for the 2020-2021 school year will open on October 12, 2019 and close January 15, 2020.

FAFSA Applications are now open.  We encourage seniors to begin completing the applications to secure federal funds.  Please visit the website fafsa.gov for more information.

Although School Performance Scores for the 2018-2019 school year have not yet been released, some preliminary data relative to student growth or progress indices have been released. I am happy to report that in the area of student growth targets (the way the state measures whether or not a student reached his/her projected growth target in one school year) that the two year combined progress index for all traditional K-12 schools in Lafayette Parish is an A or B  for student growth.  Congratulations to teachers and staff across our district who continue to grow our students.

National Association of School Principals - Every year in October, the National Association of School Principals celebrate our nation’s principals for their tireless dedication to their students and the schools they serve. School leaders work every day to give their students the best education and I’d like to take this opportunity to say “thank you” to our district’s principals for their hard work and dedication in helping to assure that best practices and programs are aligned to provide high-quality learning experiences for our students.

Miss Zhorie’l Tapo has been selected to serve as a Kid Reporter for the 2019-2020 Scholastic Kids Press. She is one of our fifth grade L.J. Alleman students and the only student selected from Louisiana.  She will be reporting on events throughout our state, region, and the nation. We are excited for this opportunity for Zhorie’l and look forward to reading her articles.

Appearances: 1.4 APPEARANCES - Preston Castille, Candidate for BESE, District 8 - Centanni

Appearances: 1.5 APPEARANCES - Gerald Boudreaux, Candidate for Louisiana State Senator, District 24 – Centanni

2. INFORMATION ITEMS

Information: 2.1 ACADEMICS: Recognition of Early College Academy-2019 National Blue Ribbon School-Morrison

Mary Morrison, Board Member District 1, recognized Early College Academy for receiving the 2019 National Exemplary Blue Ribbon School award. The program recognizes both public and private schools on elementary, middle and high school levels based on overall academic performance or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Two representatives from the school will be traveling to Washington, DC in November to attend the recognition ceremony.  Early College Academy is one of only seven schools in Louisiana to earn this honor.

Information: 2.2 ACADEMICS: Renaissance National Honor Roll for Significant Reading Achievement - Rabalais

Dr. Mark Rabalais, Chief Academic Officer, recognized Earnest Gallet Elementary, for receiving the Renaissance National Honor Roll for Significant Reading Achievement.  Only 30 educators in Louisiana achieved this honor for the 2018-2019 academic year; and 27 of the 30, are educators at Ernest Gallet Elementary.

Information: 2.3 ACADEMICS: On Track by 5 Alliance CCR&R School Readiness Tax Credit – Michelle Mahne

Michelle Mahne, Marketing Specialist, On Track by 5 Alliance Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) Agency, gave the Board information on the School Readiness Tax Credit program.  She stated that for Louisiana Business, there is a refundable state tax credit for donations made to Louisiana CCR&R agencies such as On Track by 5 in Lafayette Parish.
