1. MEETING OPENINGS
Procedural: 1.1 Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and Presentation of Colors - Acadiana High School Air Force ROTC

Procedural: 1.3 Opening Comments – Superintendent
The Superintendent gave the Board an update on the construction status of the following elementary schools scheduled to open August 2019:
Billeaud Elementary– Dry weather allowed increase of work days on the building with additional crews including additional brick laying crews; contractors working six and seven days per week; installation of windows for classrooms that will allow air condition that portion of the building. The architects and contractors are meeting with our staff and closely monitoring the timeline necessary to have the school ready for students this fall.
Baranco Elementary -Maintenance is re-finishing the floors in the main building, checking and upgrading the lighting as needed; repainting classrooms, hallways, and doors. Grounds crew replacing the fencing on the campus and removing overgrown shrubbery. New lettering for the school’s sign has been ordered.
He also stated that the principals of both schools are working with the purchasing department and district staff to order classroom furniture, office furniture, and technology equipment needed for the students.

Vice-President Britt Latiolais - District 5 and Board Member Mary Morrison – District 2, presented the Board with a video recognizing Jace Babineaux and Isaiah Stevens, students from L. Leo Judice Elementary. Mr. Latiolais and Mrs. Morrison congratulated the students for a job well done delivering the morning announcements to the faculty and students. Mr. Latiolais stated that L. Leo Judice Elementary had recently launched the video announcement program, which involves students’ participation in the daily preparation; and that several other schools are already doing the same.

National School Counseling Week
WHEREAS, The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) sponsors the National School Counseling Week to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within all school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do.
WHEREAS, National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
WHEREAS, school counselors are recognized for implementing the comprehensive school counseling program which is such a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century.
THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED, that the Lafayette Parish School Board does hereby designate the week of February 4-8, 2019 as “National School Counseling Week.”
