Action:  3.3 ACADEMICS:  Approval to amend the 2018 - 2019 Pupil Progression Plan - Aguillard/Craig/Hebert

That the Board approve the proposed changes to the 2018-2019 Pupil Progression Plan with the following modification to the section regarding reassessment:

Because mastery of content standards is the goal for all students in all subjects, all students, grades 5 through 12, who earn an F on a major assessment in any core subject shall be afforded the opportunity by the teacher to re-engage and re-assess the assessment standards; and all students, grades K through 4, who earn an F on a major assessment in any core subject may be afforded the opportunity by the teacher to re-engage and re-assess the assessment standards; and all students, grades K-12, who earn an F on a major assessment in any non-core subject may be afforded the opportunity by the teacher to re-engage and re-assess the assessment standards.  The higher grade will replace the lower grade. The teacher along with the administrative leadership team will use their professional discretion to determine which assessments are major assessments. It is logical that at least 4 summative assessments each nine weeks or 3 in the last nine weeks would be categorized as major summative assessments.  Re-engagement and re-assessment may take place, at the teacher’s and administrative leadership team’s discretion, during “skinny” periods, remediation periods, before or after school, during class independent study time or, if parent approval is obtained, during recess or lunch periods.  In grades 2 - 8, if a student is failing at the mid-nine week or end of the nine week marking periods, evidence of re-teaching must be documented.  In grades 9 – 12, if a teacher does not offer the opportunity to re-engage and re-assess or if the re-engage and re-assess process is not successful and the student earns an F at the end of a nine weeks, the student is eligible for the Credit/Grade Recovery Process on pages 29 -30 of the 2018 – 2019 Pupil Progression Plan and the higher grade will replace the lower grade.  “Core subject” means all English/ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science courses.  “Non-core subject” means all courses that are not core subjects.
