Procedural: 1.4 Opening Comments – Superintendent
Superintendent Aguillard stated that today was the first day of attendance for the students of the Lafayette Parish School System. He thanked everyone for their efforts, “which are often behind the scenes”, that allowed for a successful school opening and start of a new school year.
He stated that he personally visited nine schools along with his administrative team and district staff who were also in support of the principals and teachers as they welcomed the students onto the campuses. He thanked the civic organizations, including the 100 Black Men of Lafayette, Unity 1, UL Athletes, and law enforcement agencies who visited LPSS campuses in support of the children.
The Superintendent shared with the Board his observations on the following: Carencro Middle and Lafayette Middle air conditioners were up and running; the gymnasiums were comfortable for the students who were participating in opening day activities; 14 leased buildings from Milton Elementary were returned to vendors at a cost savings of approximately $148,000 for the coming year.
He informed the Board that he began working with staff and reviewing the initial student counts in the schools. While the enrollment counts will change over the next few weeks, it appears, that enrollment in the district will grow by several hundred students. He also thanked the parents and stakeholders of the district, for having the confidence in our teachers and schools as we work towards continued academic growth.

As per Administrative Guidelines for Board Meetings effective January 12, 2017, Dr. Aguillard approved advertisement of the following bids during the time frame of July 14, 2018 - August 3, 2018: Bid# 37-19 Chromebook Cases; Bid# 40-19 Elementary School Playground Pavilions - Package 1; Bid# 41-19 Elementary School Playground Pavilions - Package 2; Bid# 42-19 Career Center HVAC of Gym / Robotics Area.

A resolution authorizing a Notice of Call for Redemption for the outstanding Public School Refunding Bonds, Series 2008 of the Parish School Board of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Parish School Board of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana (the "Governing Authority"), acting as the governing authority of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana, for school purposes, that:
SECTION 1. That the issuance of a Notice of Call for Redemption on October 1, 2018 of the April 1, 2019 maturities of the Public School Refunding Bonds, Series 2008 (the "Bonds"), is hereby ordered and authorized in accordance with the provision of Section 5.01 of Resolution #05-08-1612.
SECTION 2. Argent Trust Company, paying agent for the Bonds is hereby authorized and directed to cause Notices of Call for Redemption to be given by first class mail, postage prepaid, via the United States mails not less than thirty (30) days prior to the redemption date addressed to the registered owners of the Bonds at the respective addresses shown on the registration books of the paying agent.
