1. MEETING OPENINGS
Procedural: 1.1 Presentation of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and Presentation of Colors
Procedural: 1.2 Moment of Silence
Procedural: 1.3 Opening Comments - Superintendent
The Superintendent informed the Board that LPSS currently has a record number of students enrolled for the 2017-18 school year. As of August 9, 2017, the total MFP student count is 30,280. This total reflects 720 students above the October 1, 2016 MFP student count. He also stated that when adding the number of Pre-K students, LPSS is currently educating a total of 31,142 students in the district.
Action: 1.4 Add to the Agenda
That the Board approve adding to the agenda -TRANSPORTATION: Grant Permission for LPSS to Provide Bus Service to ESL and Gifted Students
Motion by Jeremy Hidalgo, second by Erick Knezek.

RESOLUTION 08-17-1914
SUPPORT OF ASH INDUSTRIES, INC.’S INDUSTRIAL TAX EXEMPTION APPLICATION #20170187-ITE
WHEREAS, ASH INDUSTRIES, INC. was formed as a business domiciled in Lafayette Parish in October of 1991; and,
WHEREAS, since its inception, Ash Industries has grown from a garage business to owning eleven (11) acres property on Willow Street housing a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and manufacturing high end molded plastic parts for medical, defense, and electronic equipment use; and,
WHEREAS, Ash Industries currently employs sixty-two (62) full time employees, many of whom are minority employees, single moms, and former incarcerated individuals who have completed their sentences all in addition to twelve (12) temporary employees; and,
WHEREAS, due to a recent facilities expansion Ash Industries is now able to bring the manufacture of a major local product from abroad (Thailand) to Lafayette, Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, the facilities expansion undertaken by Ash Industries comes at a cost to the company of approximately $750,000.00 and will bring ten (10) new employees to its business in Lafayette, Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, the contract for an ad valorem tax exemption which Ash Industries is seeking with the State of Louisiana is solely for the ad valorem component of its local taxes and not sales or use of taxes;
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED that, in consideration of the valuable business which Ash Industries has brought to this local community, the continued employment of local individuals in its industry, and the expansion of its employee base as a result of its facility's expansion bringing the manufacturer of local products from abroad to Lafayette, Louisiana, the Lafayette Parish School Board, by Resolution, does hereby authorize its President, Dawn L. Morris, to execute a letter expressing approval of Ash Industries Industrial Tax Exemption Application as vital to bringing work to Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Lafayette Parish School Board finds Ash's project fulfills the intention of the Industrial Tax Exemption Program and that the project and exemption also meet the criteria of the new rules of the program-job creation and supporting the growth of manufacturing in Louisiana.
The vote, in open meeting, on the resolution was as follows:
