2.         RECOGNITIONS AND PRESENTATIONS

Appearances: 2.1 Recognition of Raven Guidry, First Girl Wrestler in Lafayette Parish - Latiolais

Raven Guidry, Senior at Acadiana High School and first girl wrestler in Lafayette Parish, has signed a "Letter of Intent" to enroll and wrestle at Oklahoma City University in the fall of 2017. Ms. Guidry will receive an athletic scholarship in the amount of $10,000.

Appearances: 2.2 Recognition of Ernest Gallet Elementary School for being named one of America’s Healthiest Schools-2016 - Aguillard/Samec

Ariyon Bryant, Healthy Schools Program Manager from New Orleans, recognized Gallet Elementary as one of America’s Healthiest Schools and the first National Healthy Schools Program Award Winner for Lafayette Parish. Coach Debra Thrower and Principal Monique Magee received the award.

Appearances: 2.3 Thibodaux STEM, Tiny House Hostel Project- Aguillard/Craig/Hebert

Principal Jeff Debetaz said the Tiny House Hostel is a two year project to help solve Lafayette’s problem with housing. Mr. Debetaz introduced the teachers and students that are working on the project. A presentation on tiny house hostels was shown to the Board.

Information: 2.4 Presentation of National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) Certificate of Achievement to Eight LPSS Administrators - Craig/Hebert

Eight Lafayette Parish Administrators earned the National Institute for School Leadership (NISL Certificate of Achievement for completing the four courses of the NISL Executive Development Program.  They are: Kathy Aloisio, Director of Elementary Schools; Cayce Booher, Principal of Prairie Elementary; Monique Chargois, Principal of Gallet Elementary; Brian Hebert, Director of Middle and Secondary Schools; Candy Kelly, Principal of Scott Middle; Dr. Mark Rabalais, Principal of Ridge Elementary; Tia Trahan, Assistant Principal of Thibodaux STEM Academy; and Kaye Victorian, Library Media Specialist.

5.         INFORMATION REPORTS

This item was rescheduled for the November 9, 2016 Regular Board meeting.

Information: 5.2 Dual Language Immersion - Aguillard/Samec

Tia LeBrun, World Language Specialist and Janie Ellison, ESL Coordinator explained the differences between language immersion vs dual language. A board member suggested that a presentation be made to parents and children.

Information: 5.3 Update on Southside High School - Aguillard/Samec

Catherine Cassidy, Principal of Southside High School reported that the logo was finalized and branded. Ms. Cassidy reported that she meets or has conference calls with the architects on a weekly basis, meets with Human Resources creating lists of positions needed, and meets with feeder schools. She also said a website has been created, and she has met with Youngsville Chief of Police on how to funnel the traffic in and out of the school prior to school beginning.

Information: 5.4 Southside High School - Change Order for Water Cooled Chiller System - Aguillard/Bordelon

Kyle Bordelon, Director of Planning and Facilities informed the Board that the chiller system for Southside High School is being changed from an air cooled chiller system to a water cooled chiller system. He said the water cooled system is more energy efficient, therefore more cost effective for LPSS over the life of the facility.

Information: 5.6 Involuntary Transfer Rubric for Teachers and Paraeducators - Aguillard/Craig/Thibodeaux

Joe Craig, Chief Administrative Officer reviewed the Involuntary Transfer Rubric for Teachers and Paraeducators. Mr. Craig said that after the zones are set and staffing analyzed, staff will begin looking at individuals and compare them to the rubric, look at traditional evaluation, education level, and seniority.

Action: 7.1 Temporary Campus for Westside Elementary School--Aguillard/Bernard/Bordelon

That the Board approve the establishment of a temporary campus for Westside Elementary School on a site to be determined in Scott pending FEMA approval to allocate 90% funding for the project.

That the Board approve the low base bid quote of $82,200 from Ducharme Brothers, Inc. for the L.J. Alleman Middle Computer Lab Renovations project in accordance with purchasing procedures & guidelines.
