2. RECOGNITIONS AND PRESENTATIONS
The Board recognized Grand Prize winner, Zhorie'l Tapo a first grade student, for winning the National Leader in Me Speech Contest with her video A Declaration of Leadership.
Also recognized was Corporal Ryan Richard, Lafayette Police Department, in appreciation for Safety Training for LPSS employees.

That the Board approve the minutes of July 12, 13, and August 1, 2, and 3, 2016, and FINANCIAL INFORMATION AND REPORTS: 4.1 Summary of Grant Funding and Activity, June 2016 final; 4.2 Ratification of Purchases, July 2016; 4.3 Budget to Actual Reports, July 2016; 4.4 Sales Tax Collection Report for June 2016.

5. INFORMATION REPORTS
Information: 5.1 Southside High School Mascot - Craig/Cassidy
Catherine Cassidy, Principal of Southside High School, informed the Board that she had met with a committee of students from Broussard Middle, Comeaux High, Milton Middle and Youngsville Middle to select colors and mascot for the new school. Ms. Cassidy said the students voted and selected the following: Colors: Teal, Navy and Silver; Mascot: Southside Sharks
Information: 5.2 AdvancED Accreditation - Aguillard/Samec
Annette Samec, Chief Academic Officer, reported to the Board that Lafayette Parish School System has been accredited by Advance Ed through June, 2021.
Information: 5.3 High School Soccer: Major Sport - Aguillard/Craig
Paul Mouton, parent of two students on the soccer team at Acadiana High, asked that the Board consider making soccer a major sport. He said the sport is expensive for the public high schools, and feels that there is a better way to make it cheaper for more students to play soccer. Mr. Mouton said that teachers who have played the sport at the high school and collegiate level need to be enticed to be coaches.

Any child wishing to remain at their current high school may do so for one optional year 2016-2017 with the Administrative Rule for 2017-2018.
