The School Board of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana, met in regular session at its meeting place, the Lafayette Parish School Board Administrative Building, Board Room, Lafayette, Louisiana, on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 5:30 P.M. pursuant to notice given in writing to every member.

B. INTRODUCTION ITEMS

Beasley requested that companies provide documentation of their discountsin writing, and he would like to look at rates to make sure they are the same.
Chassion questioned whether the discounts were true and if there was a contract on file.
3. Approval of Group Life Insurance Contract 2013. Action to be taken at a subsequent meeting.

VII. REPORTS
A. Public Comments
Karen Martin, President of LPAE, informed the Board that their organization was hosting a professional development workshop at VCC on how education reform will affect teachers, and said that anyone was invited to attend.
B. Board President/Members Comments
Babineaux said that everything seemed to have run smoothly on the first day of school, looking forward to Cajun Facebook directory, wished everyone a happy Acadian Feast Day, and looks forward to meeting regarding the future of immersion programs in the Lafayette Parish School System
Cockerham congratulated everyone for a smooth opening and also congratulated Transportation for running smoothly.
Bouillion said that he had been in Montreal, and spoke to representatives of education and industry about our French Immersion program. He said that the program was working beyond our wildest expectations, and kids with two languages are outscoring other kids. Mr. Bouillion said that he had received a check in the amount of $1,000 to be given to CODOFIL to replenish the loss of $100,000 from their budget.
Chassion offered his congratulations for an amazing start of school. Mr. Chassion requested an update on the status of student teacher ratios at the schools, in particular, the low performing schools. He said he wanted to make sure they are properly staffed.
Trahan welcomed students, parents, teachers and staff to hopefully a successful school year with some improvements.
Angelle congratulated all educators involved in educating all of the children.
Beasley said that he had been at Lafayette High School and had never seen such a smooth opening of school. Mr. Beasley reported that he had been at four other schools which also had smooth openings.
Cobb said that all the students he had spoken to were excited about the opening school, and congratulated all of the new appointees.
C. Superintendent Comments
Superintendent Cooper said that he appreciated the efforts that were made by 4400 employees to make a smooth school opening. He said that everyone pitched in and there was sense and purpose about starting new and doing it right.
